Nikita is now in a family “His sadness was transformed into happiness”

Nikita is a little boy in Moldova that we featured at Christmas as he was spending Christmas Day alone for the first time. Livia, Nikita’s case worker, told us last year “now, as we approach Christmas, Nikita is alone in an orphanage, with a pale image of his departed mummy in his small heart, waiting for a family of kind strangers to take him from there.”

Nikita’s Story

Tragically, last year, Nikita’s mother died. He was not alone though. He had a strong bond with his stepfather, Anton, and called him Dad. But like so many people in Moldova, Anton had no steady work and found it hard to make ends meet. Rather than give Anton the support he needed to care for his stepson, the authorities decided to send Nikita to the orphanage instead. And this is when we came to get to know Nikita.

You can read his story here.

Nikita Is Now in a Family

But we have some good news! By the end of the year, our specialist team in Moldova, had succeeded in matching Nikita with a caring couple who are experienced foster parents. “His sadness was transformed into happiness” says Livia. She helped Nikita get to know his new family before he left the orphanage and she will continue to check that he is well and happy in his new home. Nikita’s long term options are now being worked out and we will be working with the authorities to ensure that in the immediate and long term he will be in a loving and secure family.

You Made It Happen

By closing institutions, supporting children into loving, stable families and working with governments to tackle the root causes of family breakdown, we are working towards a day where orphanages have been eradicated for good.

Your support has made this possible.
