The ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) states as a specific objective for regional cohesion a more social and inclusive Europe including by promoting the transition from institutional to family- and community-based care (article 2).
The ERDF also calls for the support and promotion of the transition from institutional to community or family-based care through supporting facilities that would seek to prevent segregation from the community, would facilitate the integration of people to the society and would seek to ensure independent living conditions.
