This Christmas, help make sure that Violeta—and children like her—stay where they belong

Thank you so much for your support for Hope and Homes for Children. In 2019, we celebrated our 25th anniversary and because of our supporters we are closer to a world in which orphanages are recognised as unacceptable and every child can grow up where they belong: in a loving family.

Also, because of supporters like you, Violeta is at home, with her family to love and protect her this Christmas instead of alone in a damaging institution. But poverty still threatens to tear Violeta’s family apart. It’s vital that our team in Moldova continues to support them to build a more secure future and prevent Violeta and her baby brother, Pavel, being taken to an orphanage.

Any gift you are able to make this Christmas will help to keep Violeta and other vulnerable children around the world where they belong: out of orphanages and safe with the people who love them. Please click here to donate.

Keeping Violeta and her family together in Moldova
When we visited five year-old Violeta in Moldova just last month, she wanted to sing us a song about a wolf who is hunting a baby rabbit. But the wolf really is at the door for Violeta and her family, in the shape of the poverty that threatens to tear their family apart.

Unemployment is a huge problem in the rural area of Moldova where Violeta and her family live. Her mum Maria and her dad Valentine are loving and responsible parents, but with next to nothing to live on, they were coping as best they could in the only habitable room in their small home. When the ceiling was about to fall in, they could not afford to fix it.

With nowhere safe or warm to sleep, Violeta and her baby brother Pavel were at risk of being taken to an orphanage and left to survive there alone, with no one to love them.

With your support, our team in Moldova has been able to help Violeta’s family find a way through this immediate crisis. We have provided building materials so that Valentine could fix their roof and we’ve helped the family to secure a small but regular income they can rely on.

But life remains a daily struggle. Violeta’s parents still need support with basics like furniture, bedding, warm winter clothes and food to keep their family together. Without you, Violeta would be shut away, alone in an institution this Christmas. Instead, she is happy and safe where she belongs for now with the people who love her; your continued help is vital to make sure that this is where she stays.

Violeta and her family

Violeta and her family still need our support over the coming months to help keep her and her little brother, Pavel, from being taken to an orphanage.

On average, it costs £600 to provide the personalised and appropriate level of support to help a family, like Violeta’s, to stay together, the children to never have to live in an orphanage and to live a normally happy childhood where they are loved.

A gift of £45 could help to identify a family at risk of separation and the support they need to stay together

A gift of £90 could pay to train and mentor local professionals and volunteers so they can best support children in families

A gift of £113 could help to monitor a child’s progress and provide support to their family

Thank you for your support this Christmas and all you have helped us to achieve this year.
