In Moominvalley, there is a place for everyone. No creature, however lost or lonely, is left without warmth, safety and the people who care for them.
That’s the world Hope and Homes for Children are fighting to build for every child.
We’re thrilled to introduce a new partnership between Hope and Homes for Children and Moomin Characters Oy Ltd – made possible by Louis Kennedy, pioneers in creating Partnerships with Purpose, who have raised over £250 million for good causes by bringing together charities, retailers, brands and licensed properties in campaigns that create real impact.
Why are Hope and Homes for Children and Moomin Characters partnering together?
Right now, 5.4 million children are locked away in orphanages worldwide, despite 80% not being orphans. Most have families who could care for them with the right support.
Instead, many children are separated from the people who love them and face abuse, trafficking and lifelong trauma inside orphanages.
Together, Hope and Homes for Children and Moomin Characters want to help bring children Back to Family. The partnership will raise vital funds, change hearts and minds, and help build a growing global movement to consign orphanages to the history books.
What connects the Moomin stories to Hope and Homes for Children’s mission?
The partnership is woven into the heart of the Moomin stories themselves.
Before Moominpappa finds love, safety and belonging in Moominvalley, he grows up alone in an orphanage, searching for somewhere, and someone, to call home.
Like the Moomin stories, our work is rooted in the belief that everybody deserves safety, belonging and the chance to grow up surrounded by love.
Because a child needs more than food and shelter to survive. They need love, nurture and protection to truly thrive – and that all comes Back to Family.
How will the partnership help children?
Funds raised through the partnership will help:
- Keep families together before separation happens
- Reunite children with their families
- Create and support foster families
- Help children grow up with the love, safety and care they deserve
Together, and with the support of Louis Kennedy’s expertise in purpose-led partnerships, we hope to inspire more people to understand why children belong in families, not orphanages and help raise vital funds to take children Back to Family.
A shared message about belonging
“Every child deserves to grow up surrounded by love, safety and family – not confined within the walls of an orphanage. Right now, 5.4 million children are trapped in institutions worldwide, and that must change. Thanks to Louis Kennedy’s vision in bringing us together, this partnership with Moomin Characters gives us a powerful platform to reach new audiences, shift hearts and minds, and build a global movement that helps bring separated children back to the families where they belong. The stories of Moominvalley have always been about belonging – and that is exactly what we are fighting for.”
