As the year comes to a close, we want to thank supporters like you for the incredible things you’ve made possible for children in 2024.
In the past year, your support has made a huge difference to the lives of children all around the world. From keeping the precious bonds of family from fraying, to getting children out of orphanages and reuniting them with their loved ones, your kindness has created so many vital interventions.
And each of those interventions is a catalyst for further change – for every orphanage we close, we’re strengthening prevention services that will benefit many more children. For each person we train or local authority we speak to, we’re extending our ability to reach more people and improve entire childcare systems. Every single thing we do creates ripples of change that spread far beyond the initial impact of our work.
So with that in mind – and as the end of the year rapidly approaches – here’s a rundown of some of the key achievements you’ve made possible this year.*
All around the world, from Romania to Rwanda, we’ve been identifying and closing the institutions that are doing such harm to children. Closing down orphanages is a complex endeavour and can often take years to achieve, but thanks to our incredible advocacy team, our regional partners and our community-based staff, we’re moving ever closer to our goal of eliminating orphanages completely in all the countries we work in.
Our work is all about getting children Back to Family – whether that’s by keeping families together, reuniting them, or creating new ones. In 2024, thanks to our supporters, at least 487 children were able to escape from the loneliness, isolation and brutality of orphanages, and find new homes where they were safe, loved and cared for.
Families around the world are facing enormous pressures right now – war, poverty and a lack of opportunities and support are forcing parents into impossible positions where they have to make heartbreaking decisions. But this year thousands of families have been able to get the support they needed to stay together thanks to the amazing work of our staff and partners.
From new foster parents to children’s rights advocates, all across the globe our teams have been sharing their expertise. This year we’ve been working tirelessly to train others so that they can better provide vulnerable children with the protection, support systems and nurturing environments they need to be happy and thrive.
There’s no denying that 2024 was a tough year globally – conflict, rising costs and political upheaval created new challenges for billions of people. But we’re determined that children will not pay the price.
And as we look to the year ahead, we’re confident that together we can take huge strides on our mission to end orphanages forever and bring separated children Back to Family.
