Parliamentary Taskforce on Global Care Reform for Children

The Harms of Orphanages

Orphanages don’t help children, they harm them. From sexual abuse to trafficking, children in orphanages are some of the most vulnerable and forgotten in the world, yet political and public outrage is largely missing.

UK Parliamentary Taskforce Launch

That’s why, in February 2025, Hope and Homes for Children launched the first ever UK Parliamentary Taskforce on Global Care Reform for Children. With an emphasis on MPs and Peers with lived experience, the Taskforce convenes a cross-party group of parliamentary champions acting together to hep tackle this preventable violation of children’s rights.

Taskforce Composition

The group is formed of around 15 MP’s and Peers from across the political spectrum who are willing to use their influence to ensure the UK Government fills the global leadership gap in creating the necessary political will, momentum, and coordination to ensure every child, everywhere, can get back to family.

Origins of the Taskforce and Global Charter

The Parliamentary Taskforce was created following David Lammy and Hollywood actor, Barry Keoghan, launching the Global Campaign on Children’s Care Reform in January 2025. The Campaign along with the associated Global Charter, which the Deputy Prime Minister launched on September 24, 2025, in the margins of the UN General Assembly, seeks to unite world leaders around strengthening families, preventing unnecessary separation, ensuring safe, family-based alternative care, and ending the use of institutions for children globally.
