Mike

Community Fundraiser

Mike has been at Hope and Homes for Children since 2007. His day job is working in the Community Fundraising Team, but in his spare time it's not unusual to find him practicing what he preaches. "I recently completed a cycle ride from London to Berlin, before completing the Berlin marathon – all in aid of Hope and Homes for Children.

"There are two simple driving factors why I love working and fundraising for Hope and Homes for Children. Firstly I enjoy working with the people - from the staff at head office to our volunteers around the UK. It's a real pleasure to be with such enthusiastic, fun and committed individuals five days a week.

"I guess the overriding motivation for me is the difference our work makes to young, vulnerable lives.

"Having visited our work in Romania, Ukraine and Sierra Leone, I've seen firsthand how we transform lives. When you look into someone's eyes and see the hope that shines through, it makes everything worthwhile and inspires you to do your best.

"Hope and Homes for Children advocates for change, as well as works on the ground. This means we are not only changing individual lives, but also setting up the processes and plans for new childcare policies that will affect generations of children to come.

"Surely there can't be any greater motivation than that?"

Did you know?

When we began work in Romania in 1999 there were 100,000 children trapped in institutional care. Today the figure is less than 11,000 and the Romanian Government has committed to working with us to close every state run institution by 2020.
