2010 – Together we are stronger
In 2010, as in previous years, we achieved extraordinary things for children in Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. How does an organisation of our size achieve such disproportionate impact? The answer is that we believe in partnership. We work in cooperation with governments and local authorities, community groups, NGOs and like-minded organisations. And we believe strongly in the importance of working in close partnership with all of our supporters.
Key achievements in 2010
We had a positive impact on the lives of 26,525 children, young adults and parents.
We successfully closed 7 institutions and made significant progress in closing another 8.
We freed 540 children and young adults from institutions.
We prevented 5,641 children from being separated from their parents.

Did you know?
When we began work in Romania in 1999 there were 100,000 children trapped in institutional care. Today the figure is less than 11,000 and the Romanian Government has committed to working with us to close every state run institution by 2020.
