We understand some of you may be asking yourselves this question – well the answer is simple. By taking part in Unleash Your Potential your school will be helping to transform the lives of vulnerable children across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa and giving them the opportunity to fulfil theirs.
What is it that Hope and Homes for Children do?
We work to give children a family and a future. Could you imagine growing up not knowing what a family is? Or not having the sense of belonging or emotional support that being part of one provides?
Families are a source of comfort, warmth, nurturing and protection. If children are denied this love and respect, their chances in life are dramatically reduced.
At Hope and Homes for Children we believe that, above all else, every child should grow up within a caring family. To achieve this we work together with children, their families and communities to ensure that children grow up in an environment where they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
We move children out of institutions into family-based care, help keep together families at risk of breakdown, due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict, and work to prevent child abandonment.
Where does Hope and Homes for Children work?
We work across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa
 Central and Eastern Europe
Today home for over one million children is a bleak, state run institution or orphanage. Sadly, many of these children have parents but poverty is keeping them apart.
To ensure that these children are able to grow up in families, we have developed a method of closing institutions that puts children’s rights and needs first.
Wherever possible, we reunite children with their parents or extended families. Alternatively, we provide foster placements or create Small Family Homes within the community. As part of this process we also establish services that help keep families together, whilst tackling the issues that lead to children being placed in institutions in the first place. |

 Africa
In Africa, many families are living in communities that have been devastated by disease, poverty and conflict. Under these pressures family life often breaks down, leaving children alone and extremely vulnerable.
Our method of support is making a real and lasting difference. The key to our approach is that we tailor our assistance to the individual circumstances of each child or family, addressing their immediate needs while working together to find long-term solutions. These include providing education or training, offering small business loans and ensuring they have access to other vital services such as healthcare. Our ultimate aim is to help them become self-sufficient so that they are able to face their futures with confidence. |
