Scouts in action
At the heart of our work, is our firm belief that all children should have the opportunity to realise their dreams and fulfil their potential. This too, is an important focus for The Scout Association. Neil Leatherland, County Commissioner for the West Yorkshire Scouts, says:
"As Scout leaders, we have a responsibility to help young people achieve their full potential. When I heard about Hope and Homes for Children I realised that their work mirrors a lot of what Scouting is about. The charity helps vulnerable children develop by making sure they grow up in a caring family environment. As Scouts, we are also like a family, from six year-old Beavers Scouts right up to adult volunteers of every age."
It’s because of this shared vision that we have been very fortunate to have benefited from the support of Scout groups across the UK. By unleashing their own potential and recognising their creativity, groups have raised money for us in numerous ways. From theatrical performances to outdoor challenges, Scouts are never afraid to try new things, face a new adventure or get their hands dirty.
By supporting Hope and Homes for Children, Scouts are not only developing their own social awareness, but they are directly involved in improving the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable children. An achievement everyone should be proud of.

Hot off the press
The West Yorkshire Scouts Group recently found fame in the Feb/March 2009 Scouting magazine (pages 34-35). After putting on a range of fundraising events the West Yorkshire Scouts raised over £5,000. A staggering achievement, thank you.
