Welcome to Project Ubuntu
There are thousands of families in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Sudan who are living in desperate conditions, believing that there is no hope for them of a better future. However, with the help of Rotary International, Hope and Homes for Children can offer these families the lifeline they need to turn their lives around.
We estimate that in an average of just three years and at a cost of only £500 per year, we can provide the professional expertise and resources needed to help a family become self-reliant. Each family we work with is individually assessed. We then create a tailored support plan for each family through our Active Family Support Programme.
There are five main areas on which Project Ubuntu focuses and these are: Living Conditions, Health, Education, Family Relationships and Household Income as well as any emergency care that may be needed initially to simply keep the family alive. Assistance might include paying of school fees, providing healthcare or funding vocational training. The final aim is to work towards each family achieving independence and self-sufficiency by the end of the three-year programme.
How to get involved
We need Rotary to help us change the lives of some of Africa’s most helpless children and families. At a cost of £500 per year with families achieving independence after just three years, your club can choose to support a family for one, two or three years. Each club that becomes a part of the programme will receive a yearly newsletter updating them on the progress of some of the families you are supporting as well as news on the overall impact of Project Ubuntu.
