Ampleforth College Rowing To Success

Over five hundred students, monks, staff and parents at Ampleforth College, rowed to our projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Moldova before arriving exhausted in Ukraine – all without leaving the St Alban’s Sports Centre!

The weekend of the 9-11 October 2009 saw the competitor’s static rowing a combined distance of 2,500km to raise £20,000 to transform children’s lives. It was a thrilling rowathon with a range of challenges including an endurance race with individuals rowing 50km each and teams competing head to head on a virtual rowing lake.

This was the first annual rowathon to take place at Ampleforth College and Fr Gabriel Everitt, OSB, the headmaster, had this to say,

"In my experience whenever asked, staff, students, parents and members of the monastic and local community have always responded enthusiastically to requests to help others. This Rowathon challenge is no exception; more than 500 individuals have rallied in support of Hope and Homes for Children.

"The school's charitable fundraising arm, Face-Faw shares many of the aims of this worthwhile charity and we are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with them on a project which shares so many of our own objectives."

So a big thank you to everyone who unleashed their rowing potential for us!
