Project SIerra: A Family and A Future

Project SIerra, the four year partnership between Soroptimist International and Hope and Homes for Children, is aiming to raise £1 million ($2million USD) to help some of Sierra Leone's most deprived women and children. The end of this month marks the half-way point for the partnership and so far over £332,000 has been raised worldwide.

2009 also saw a group of Soroptimists visiting Sierra Leone on a Study Tour to see firsthand the difference the Project SIerra is making.

Here’s what our Regional Manager for Africa, Joe Glackin, who accompanied the Soroptimists on their recent visit, had to say,

“I am very pleased to thank all the Soroptimists for their continuing support for Project SIerra. The study trip in February was an opportunity for Soroptimists from many different parts of the world to experience the conditions in Sierra Leone under which families and children are struggling not only to survive, but work for a positive future.

“Despite the difficult conditions, every project site we visited was a real celebration of partnership between Soroptimists and families and children. Although the poverty and deprivation are clear to see, the real joy and hope that the project is providing is equally obvious.

“Along with the energy and enthusiasm that you are clearly committing to the project, the study trip in February demonstrated the personal commitment many Soroptimists around the world have to creating a better world for women, families and children.”
