| Great Northern Success
Here at Hope and Homes for Children we wanted to say a massive well done to all the runners competing in this year's Great North Run. An impressive 52,000 competitors took up the challenge and we had 21 runners taking part on our behalf, with eight of these runners from Southdown Construction, Sussex.
The Great North Run is considered the world's greatest half marathon and this year it didn’t disappoint. All the runners, from professional athletes to beginners, enjoyed setting off from the centre of Newcastle to South Shields, via the Tyne Bridge. The Red Arrows also wowed both runners and supporters alike by flying over the Tyne Bridge.
The event was also graced by Olympic swimming medallists Ellie Simmons and Rachel Adlington, and Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy, who helped cheer on the runners. Amongst these were celebrity runners, including model and television presenter Nell McAndrew, former Olympic medallist Kriss Akabusi, and BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth.
Hope and Homes Children Events Coordinator David James commented, “The Great North Run was a fantastic day and it was humbling to see just how much training, hard work and dedication all the of the Hope and Homes for Children competitors put in. Their collective efforts raised over £6,000 which will have huge impact on the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Central and Eastern Europe and Africa.”
Feel inspired to get in shape whilst helping out a great cause? Then why not take part in a challenge to support our work.
