| TV Apprentice Aide Nick Hewer to drive Mongol Rally
Sir Alan Sugar’s aide, Nick Hewer, is driving 10,000 miles to Mongolia to raise funds for us. In July the Apprentice star’s famous helper will travel across five mountain ranges and three deserts in a 20-year-old Renault called Hortense.
Sir Alan has already sponsored his associate £1,000, writing “good luck you old rambler” on Nick’s sponsorship page on the Justgiving website. Nick, will drive through Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, where Hope and Homes for Children has projects. Additionally, Nick’s trip will take him through France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan before he arrives in Mongolia’s capital, Ulan Bator.
Nick said, “I am setting out on an overland trip to the capital of Mongolia. Why am I driving 10,000 miles in an old car that can barely reach 60mph on a good road? Because it’s time for an adventure and because, in doing so, I am hoping to raise lots of money for Hope and Homes for Children.”
Since setting his fundraising target of £5,000, Nick has managed to double it, and there’s no sign of the donations slowing down. The good people of Kent were able to raise an amazing £1301 in an effort to get Invictor FM an interview with Nick. The dedicated team from the Kent radio station spent the day washing cars, with the added incentive of their breakfast DJ, James Heming, wearing a bikini to pull in the crowds.
