Celebrating families
Saturday 15 May marks International Day of Families – a day created by the United Nations to highlight the importance of families. Our belief that every child should grow up in a family underpins everything we do.
Our mission is to give hope to the poorest children in the world – those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable – by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so that they can fulfil their potential.
We feel strongly about this because families give children roots, so that they can develop and grow and enjoy all that life has to offer. They provide children with a sense of belonging and a unique identity, families are also a vital source of emotional support and comfort, warmth and nurturing, protection and security.
It is our belief that if children grow up without a family, their development is inhibited and their chances in life are dramatically reduced. That is why we work closely with children, their families, communities and governments to ensure that every child can grow up in a family environment.
Families are at the core of everything we do
We consider ourselves to be a child-led organisation as we respect individual children’s rights, culture and potential. But maybe we should describe ourselves as family-led because they are at the core of all our work – helping to reunite families and fighting to keep families together who would otherwise be at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict.
We know all too well that families come in all shapes and sizes so we’re like to introduce you to some of the children and families we’ve supported over the years.
How about fundraising for families?
