Fundraising for families
We hope these families’ stories have inspired you into action. Your fundraising efforts will help us to continue our work across all our programmes – so why not hold an International Day of Families Picnic Party?
What better way to celebrate International Day of Families than with a traditional family picnic! What’s more, you can raise money for Hopes and Homes for Children at the same time.
Invite all your friends and their families for a fun day in the sunshine as the warm weather brightens up across the UK. By selling cups of tea, sandwiches and cakes you can raise money for families across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa whilst having fun.
For added amusement why not give your picnic a theme? Get children to dress up as fairytale characters or superheroes and create fantastic foods that tie in with your chosen theme. Of course, adults can dress up too!
A few of our top tips
- Serve up delicious homemade treats such as sandwiches and biscuits to your guests – how about selling cupcakes with our logo of a blue heart on them? Also why not get everyone to bring an edible treat along so that you don’t end up doing all the cooking yourself!
- Organise games for the children – why not create your own scavenger hunt? mini-sports day? or how about a football tournament?
- Put on a raffle or tombola, or if you’re feeling adventurous put together a quiz. One round could be dedicated to famous families such as The Simpsons, The Osborne’s or even The Royal Family…the list is endless.
- Don’t leave the kids out – get them to bring their teddy bears along to hold a ‘guess the name of the teddy’ competition, or perhaps the classic of ‘how many sweets in the jar?’
Also get the local community involved
- Stir up support by making posters and promoting your picnic. If you need any help feel free to contact our Community Fundraising Team on 01722 790111 or email events@hopeandhomes.org
- Ask local businesses for their help. Get the local radio show or newspaper to advertise your event. Or ask local businesses to donate food or raffle prizes.
- Involve your local school. This way your idea can quickly reach a large number of people and you’ll be able to raise even more money!
Something to think about
- £5 for a sandwich, a slice of cake and a cup of tea could provide a child leaving an institution with their first ever toy.
- £10 for an afternoon of family fun and games could provide a school bag for a vulnerable child we support.
- £25 for five sheets of raffle tickets could provide a baby care pack for a struggling family.
If you are already planning to hold a fundraising event then why not coincide it with International Day of Families? Turn that car boot sale, quiz night or coffee morning into a special fundraiser on behalf of all the families we work with. We can provide all the materials and advice you need to make your event a success so just contact our Community Fundraising Team on 01722 790111 or email events@hopeandhomes.org
