Ubuntu means ‘humanity to others’. Project Ubuntu supports the most vulnerable children and families living in Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan and Sierra Leone.
Today there are thousands of families in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Sudan who are living in desperate conditions, believing that there is no hope of a better future. Due to poverty, disease and war, family breakdown is ever present with children being at the most risk. With the help of Rotary International, and at a cost of only £500 per year, Hope and Homes for Children can offer these families a vital lifeline.
Just three years is the average time it takes us to change the lives of a family. With the provision of basic resources such as education, healthcare, vocational training and home repairs, we can help families achieve the independence they long for.
Project Ubuntu focuses on five main areas: Living Conditions, Health, Education, Family Relationships and Household Income, as well as any emergency care that may be needed initially, simply to keep the family alive. Assistance might include paying school fees, providing healthcare or funding vocational training. The final aim is for each family to achieve self-sufficiency by the end of the three-year programme.
Your club can choose to support a family for one, two or three years. Each participating club will receive a yearly newsletter updating them on the progress of some of the families you are supporting, and on Project Ubuntu's overall impact.
