Rising
dramatically from the plains of the Great Rift Valley and bordering
Kenya and Tanzania, Mt Kilimanjaro, at 5896 m (19,340 f t), is
Africa’s highest mountain. This dormant and permanently
snow-capped volcano is the highest freestanding mountain in the
world. Our treks will follow the seven-day, 33km Rongai
Route which takes you up through equatorial rainforest, offering
the chance to see local wildlife before crossing high moorland
with views of the eastern icefields and the crater rim. Although
there is no technical climbing on this ascent, the trails are
demanding and a sound level of fitness will be required to participate. It is the ultimate physical and mental challenge
for any fit trekker, which means you will earn every penny of
the sponsorship money you raise to take part in this once in a
lifetime trip. In
order to secure a place on one of the treks you will need to make
an initial contribution of £250 upon registration, which
will go towards the cost of the trek itself. We will return your
cheque if you do not get a place. We also ask you to make a commitment
to raise a minimum of £2900. Of this amount, £1590
will go towards the work being achieved in our project countries.
